A new documentary explores the issue of mental health in the Philippines and role that traditional healers have played in mental illness and its treatment.
The film, Spirit of Healer: Traditional Healing in the Philippines, which begins airing tomorrow in the UK, shows how practitioners of indigenous healing in the Philippines are addressing problem of the country's increasing suicide rates.
Traditional healers claim to cure psychological and physical illnesses through indigenous spiritual medicine. In the Philippines, country's biggest indigenous group, the Jivaro, are traditionally regarded as psychotherapists.
They also give courses in the field of mental health.
